The Energy of a Home: How Clean Spaces and Kindness Create Positivity
Have You Ever Felt the Energy of a Place?
Have you ever experienced positive energy when you visited someone’s house or when you spoke to someone? That instant happiness and calmness around them, around that space or environment? That warmth and sense of comfort that makes you want to stay longer?
I’ve personally felt this many times — visiting certain homes where everything feels calm, bright, and welcoming. It’s not just about how beautiful the home looks; it’s about the energy it carries.
How People and Spaces Carry Energy
I once read that the way people think, act, and care for their environment shapes the energy around them. People who embody simplicity, kindness, calmness, and warmth naturally make others feel comfortable. Their presence radiates positivity. They radiate that positivity.
On the other hand, clutter, arguments, or constant negativity can make a space feel heavy and draining. You can’t see it. Still, you can feel it through tension in the air. There be restlessness or even silence that feels uneasy.
The Subtle Power of Negativity
Negativity has a greater impact on a space and the people living in it than we often realize. A cluttered mind, lack of gratitude, constant complaining, or being upset over small things can create negative vibrations. Even in silence, unresolved emotions can make a space feel heavy.
Over time, these energies affect sleep, focus, and relationships. But the good part is — we can transform them. Positivity doesn’t mean perfection; it begins with awareness and small, mindful actions every day.
Building Positive Energy at Home
When people express gratitude, share kindness, and live with calmness, it reflects in their surroundings. Everything starts to feel brighter and lighter. This change is not immediate. It requires a conscious process. It is built through daily practices like prayers, de cluttering, meditation, mindfulness, lighting a diya, or seva.
These rituals not only organize the home but also the mind. Personally, I believe that gratitude, chanting, bhakti, and surrender are the strongest ways to fill a home with peace.
De cluttering for Flow and Freshness
I often listen to podcasts and read about energy and mindfulness. One of my favorite takeaways is from the book Ikigai:
“Clutter blocks the flow of energy — whether in your surroundings or your mind.”
So true! A clean and tidy home feels peaceful and welcoming. To make my home more inviting, I love adding green touches like money plants or indoor plants. I keep doors and windows open for natural light. This also helps with ventilation. I place scented candles in corners. This creates a soothing atmosphere.
Every six months, I de clutter my racks and donate items I no longer use to those in need. I also avoid unnecessary shopping during sales — this simple habit prevents clutter and brings more clarity to my space.
The Joy of Seva and Service
At our home, we practice seva by donating food to the needy near temples almost every week. Every night, we also serve street dogs — offering them biscuits or chapatis with love. These small acts of kindness bring us immense peace and fulfillment.
I love cooking. Serving others is an act of seva that has truly deepened my patience. It has added a quiet sense of calm and contentment to our home. It constantly reminds me that giving doesn’t reduce what we have — it multiplies peace and positivity within us.
🙏 Share your experiences of seva or service — whether it’s helping someone, feeding animals, or contributing in small ways. Your story might inspire someone to start their own journey of giving.
Inspired by Everyday People
Some of the practices I follow today were inspired by people around me. My neighbor aunt, for example, keeps her home spotless no matter what time of day you visit. I once asked her how she manages. She smiled and said — “I just keep things in place after every use.”
Another inspiration was my teacher’s family. Every cupboard and shelf in their home is organized beautifully. They told me that every six months, they remove what they no longer need and pass it on to others. It’s such a simple but powerful practice — a balance of discipline and detachment.
Energy Is Real, Even If You Can’t See It
Every small detail adds to the energy of your home. Whether it’s a tidy corner, a warm smile, or a small act of giving. Positive energy is not about how your house looks, but about how it feels.
When we live with love, simplicity, and gratitude, our homes become sanctuaries. They are spaces that comfort us and heal us. These spaces spread joy to everyone who enters.
